? Corporate Investment

  • Toronto-based 3D animation software developer SideFX has received an undisclosed amount of investment from American video game giant Epic Games

  • President and CEO of SideFX Kim Davidson remains the majority owner of the company, while Epic Games becomes a minority investor of SideFX, alongside MMV Capital Partners

  • The companies will not share their intellectual property, which means there will be no impact on the development of SideFX’s main product Houdini

? Previous Rounds

  • In December 2005, SideFX raised $1.5m in a funding round led by MMV Financial Inc.

?  Products

  • SideFX is a developer of procedural 3D animation software kit Houdini and Houdini Engine, successors of the company’s previous product PRISMS

    • Houdini allows game developers to create next-gen content and high-end cinematics. The tool was used in the development of such AAA titles, as Far Cry 5, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Mafia 3, and others

  • PDG (Procedural Dependency Graph) is another SideFX’s product, which is a procedural architecture that helps designers and developers better scale, automate, and analyze content pipelines for Film, TV, Games, Advertising, and VR
