? Acquisition
- US-based video game software developer Unity Technologies (NYSE:U) acquired 3D data company Pixyz Software for an undisclosed amount
? Strategic Rationale
- Unity and Pixyz have been working together since 2018, when the company released Pixyz Plugin, which allowed a direct import of CAD files (with 3D & 2D designs) to Unity engine
- From now on, Pixyz products will be available both through Pixyz and Unity sales websites/representatives for the same price as before. Pixyz will continue working on the accessibility of Unity engine but this time the company will have access to Unity’s vast resources, expertise, and first-hand information about the engine
- In the future, Unity plans to develop tools that address the specific needs of different customers (gaming and industrial companies). With more Pixyz tools integrated into Unity products, the Unity engine is planned to become even more accessible and potentially more profitable
? Products
- Among the Pixyz products are:
- Pixyz Studio, a preparation tool that optimizes CAD data for real-time 3D development
- Pixyz Plugin, a plugin for Unity3D Editor that imports and integrates CAD files into Unity
- Pixyz Scenario Processor, a tool that allows to deploy and scale the usage of ready-to-use 3D optimization scenarios
- Pixyz supports 35+ 3D file formats (e.g. formats from popular 3D tools such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Alias, Inventor, VRED etc.)
- Pixyz’s products are utilized by companies that manufacture household appliances and cars (e.g. Siemens, Toyota, Volkswagen etc.) as well as by game developers. Among the French studio’s partners are such companies as NVIDIA, Microsoft, Audi, and Huawei
